MAKING A COMPLAINT

Please send your letter to John Stafford, Chief Executive Officer at the above address.

Within five working days of receiving the letter, the Chief Executive Officer will write to the complainant to explain how their complaint will be handled.

If the complaint is about an issue involving the Chief Executive Officer, the complainant should address their letter to the Secretary of the Merseyside Probation Trust.

If the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome, they can appeal within 15 working days of receiving the outcome. They must write to the Secretary to the Merseyside Probation Trust explaining why they wish to appeal. The Secretary will acknowledge their letter within 5 working days of receiving it.

A Panel, including at least one Board member, will look at the appeal. They may ask to meet with the complainant and the investigating officer. The outcome will be sent to the complainant within 20 days of the receipt of the appeal.

If the complainant is still not satisfied they may write to the Prison and Probation Ombudsman. Complainants may also at any stage speak to their Member of Parliament with a view to having their complaint taken up by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration (PCA), but normally the PCA will expect the complainant to have gone through all other steps firstly.
