EQUALITY SCHEMEMerseyside Probation Trust has great pleasure in launching its Single Equality Scheme. We see it as an important document which will shape our services for the future and which has been based upon the strong foundations of our practice in the past. This includes several initiatives for which Merseyside staff have with national recognition for their innovations. The Scheme is a living document and we would encourage comments on it particularly from members of the Merseyside public or the organisations which represent them. EQUALITY IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA)EIA is a process whereby an organisation looks at the outcomes of its work and analyses whether or not those outcomes are fair to everyone and then considers what may need to be done differently e.g. improving monitoring or making changes to policy and practice. Thus part of the purpose of conducting EIAs will be about taking action to address unfair, unlawful or discriminatory practice. MPT, like all public authorities, has a legal duty to conduct EIAs when reviewing and developing policies, practices and everything it does. EIAs cover both service delivery and employment practice.
