PRISON

The Probation Service works with offenders during their prison sentence, and supervises those who are released early from custody on Licence. Whilst in custody, offenders may attend general offending behaviour programmes or the Enhanced Thinking Skills programme, delivered by probation and prison staff. Offenders can also access support in relation to accommodation, relationships and finance, and are given help with finding employment on release. All of this is designed to break the revolving door of crime, which sees many offenders return to prison within weeks of their release.

There are three prisons on Merseyside:

HMP Liverpool
HMP Altcourse
HMP Kennet

Teams of probation staff work within each of the above locations.
