WORK WITH VICTIMS

The Probation Service has a statutory duty to work with victims in cases of serious violence or sexual offences, where the offender is serving a sentence of 12 months or more. This enables victims and their families to be kept informed of the circumstances of the offender at every stage of their sentence and on release. Any concerns or queries that the victim may have about the case can also be discussed during this period.

Probation staff work closely with a number of agencies including Support After Murder and Manslaughter and Victim Support in this sensitive area of work.
